University Updates:

Tier 4 Action required: update e:vision on where you will be located from now to end of summer term

“We understand that many students may wish to return home, or have already returned to their homes. Some students may wish to remain at home during this period of exceptional circumstances. However, we also appreciate that for some students the campus or the city is their home. It is important for us to understand where are students now reside to help us plan our support services.

Please log into e:vision as soon as you can to provide us with information on your current location and plans for the Summer term.

The University will not be curtailing sponsorship for any Tier 4 student not returning to the UK for the Summer term. However, you must provide the information requested below through e:vision.

This will mean that you do not need to complete an early departure form or a change in study location request for the Summer term. You must update us with your location through e:vision”

All teaching from the start of the summer term on Tuesday 14 April will move to online provision

“We will be working over the Easter vacation period to start the process of updating and moving teaching materials online. We are also in the process of assessing the best digital tools in order to deliver seminars and tutorials via online platforms. We will be able to tell you more about how this will all work in the coming days. Our aim will be to provide access to online learning opportunities wherever you are in the world at the start of next term.”

Residences and colleges remain open

“Should you choose to leave campus or the city and return home following the announcement of online teaching, please inform the Student Hub. For any student remaining on campus or in the city, it is important to understand that the University is not closed. At present most facilities, including Colleges, residences, the library and cafes will remain open and we have been assured by our suppliers of fresh food that stocks have not been affected.”

All examinations and assessments for the remainder of the academic year will be moved online

“We are working with all departments to assess how we can move to an online assessment process for all other years of study, and they will be in contact with you to provide further information in this regard. All staff are working hard now to get this ready for you. We are committed to ensuring that all students can complete their academic programme and graduate or progress on time. You should continue to work on any assessments that have already been set. We strongly advise you to continue with your studies and revision as normal.”

All first year examinations are cancelled

Post offer visit days and widening participation residentials will be delivered online

University transport 🚌BUS UPDATE🚌

As of this Sunday (March 22nd) First Bus will be changing their timetables to account for developments in Covid-19.

Please check below and plan accordingly if you need to travel, but in general try and avoid travelling as much as possible

University Updates (19.03.2020) - from Vice-Chancellor Charlie Jeffrey

Students who are in a position to do so are encouraged to leave campus for home.

“we strongly advise that all students, who are in a position to do so, consider leaving student accommodation on campus and returning home. If you are living in accommodation elsewhere in the city, you may also wish to consider the implications of possible future Government advice as the situation evolves. As our International Pathways College (IPC) have also moved to online teaching, the information in this email is also applicable to our IPC community.”

For students who will remain on campus due to personal reasons or travel restrictions the university will remain your home.

“For those of you who have no option other than to remain on campus for personal reasons or due to travel restrictions, the University of course remains your home. It is our absolute priority to do all that we can to support your health and wellbeing. We will continue to support and maintain essential facilities and services. We are following Government advice, however, which means many of our staff are working from home and we are not able to maintain a full range of services. Rest assured, the small number of staff remaining on campus remain dedicated and focused on supporting you, if you have to stay.”

On self isolating:

“If you are self-isolating, you must continue to follow Government guidance and stay in your accommodation until you have recovered, in line with self-isolating requirements. People who are self-isolating must not use taxis or public transport.”

On rental agreements:

“We also know that many of you have asked questions about rental agreements. We are considering these issues and we will be in touch with further updates.”

The library will be closed from 5pm on March 20th until further notice.

“Our Library will also close at 5pm on 20 March. This is a very fast moving situation and at this moment in time, we do not anticipate students returning to campus after the Easter break.”
